Frequently Asked Questions

What is tallow and why use it?

Tallow's been used for centuries, and it's still a popular skincare option today. It's basically just animal fat that's been rendered down into a usable form - often from grass-fed beef or sheep. People love it because it's super moisturizing and can help with all sorts of skin issues. To make it workable, they mix it with other natural stuff like essential oils or beeswax. The result is a balm that's basically just a bunch of good stuff from the earth, without any harsh chemicals or preservatives. Some folks swear by it for dry skin, eczema, and even acne - it's like a natural superhero for your skin.

What Are The Benefits Of Using Tallow?

Tallow is pretty amazing for your skin, and it's totally natural. Since your skin is the biggest organ and all, it's super important to use products that aren't harsh or toxic. Tallow is 100% natural, and it's packed with good stuff like vitamins A, D, E, and K, and minerals that are great for your skin. It's even got a similar chemical makeup to human skin cells, which helps fix and regenerate damaged skin. Plus, it's got some great stuff like omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that can help reduce wrinkles and make your skin look smoother and more youthful.

What is the difference between whipped and solid tallow?

The key distinction between our whipped tallow and solid balm lies in their texture and application ease. Whipped tallow boasts a light, airy consistency that makes it effortless to apply. In contrast, our Tallow Balm has a firmer texture, ideal for a more targeted application, thereby reducing the likelihood of overuse. If the product becomes too cold, simply warm it in your fingers before applying. Rest assured, both products offer the same beneficial effects for skin health.

Where do you get your Tallow From?

Our tallow is sourced from Gemstone Beef, a local Alberta, Canada-based supplier. We utilize Canadian grass-fed and finished tallow, which is derived from cattle raised without the use of hormones or antibiotics.

Does Tallow have a 'beefy' aroma?

Breathe easy, folks - our Tallow Balm won't make you smell like a cow barn. We're using all-natural tallow that's been gently rendered and purified. The only product that does have a bit of a noticeable beef scent is the unscented line but most people are not bothered by it. If you do have a sensitive nose, don't worry, we've added some awesome essential oils to many of our products that mask the smell. So, go ahead and give it a try - your nose (and your friends) will thank you!

When does the tallow expire?

Tallow will keep for a pretty long time if you store it right. At room temperature, it'll last up to a year if you keep it in a cool, dark spot in an airtight container. If you store it in the fridge, it'll stay good for 12-18 months.

Is tallow safe for babies?

Yes, it's perfect for sensitive newborn skin. We highly recommend using unscented whipped tallow.

Use it for:

Whole body moisturizer, rashes/nappy rash, dry patches, cradle cap, baby acne, Diaper cream, sunburn's, scratches, and always avoid contact with eyes.

Is Tallow Vegan?

Vegan alert! Just kidding, kind of. Our Tallow Balm isn't vegan, mainly because it's made from animal fat - yep, straight from the cow. But before you send us hate mail, let us explain that we're not heartless. We source our tallow from local farms where the cows get to roam free and eat all the grass they want (no factory farms here). We like to think our ancestors would be proud of us for not wasting all that delicious fat. And let's be real, it's packed with vitamins - like the ultimate superfood for your skin. So, we're not saying go vegan or anything, but... actually, yes, let's just say we're proud to be part of a growing zero-waste movement, one tallow balm at a time!
